Project Update #1

Project Update: Recording is moving along nicely, and many musicians are currently at work on their own - playing their part for the selected song. And although arrangements are being made almost daily -with even more talented musicians, I have only worked my way through 60% of the songs! Wow, a bit of a madhouse really..... Lot's of orchestration, I can tell you! ------ But, we are still on track to have all recording wrapped up by mid September and CD's by late October.

I was shooting for an October release, but in light of the new Prefab Sprout release date of October 7th, I may just push the project release date off a few weeks to early November. As it might be a bit confusing to release in the same month.

Over the past 6 months a few more great songs have made their way into the fold and onto the album. What was originally a trimmed down list of 10 songs has turned into 14. Neil Conti currently plays on 9 of those songs, and I'm hoping to get him in time for another "one or two". Below is the entire song list for the album, in no particular order.

39 Steps
I Took Too Long
Love Junkie
Fall
Charm Offensive
God’s Country
Wanderlust
Hannah, Are You Out There?
Coming Home
Bliss
Finally September
Fast Ships and Supernovas
Spirit Us Away
Love

Icebreaker Records announced the official Facebook page is open for business, as of today.
They also offered an official Twitter presence (click here).

In addition, I was also told that there may be a few 'tweets' from Paddy McAloon - as the October 7th release date draws near.
The first single to be released from the new album is "The Best Jewel Thief In The World". That single will be released on the same date as the new album, October 7th, 2013.

And of course... the album artwork has been posted for your viewing pleasure.

NEW BONUS SONG!

NEW BONUS SONG! This one pertains to The Prefab Sprout Project, and not the actual Prefab Sprout. Lol. As I am sure that right now many of you are thinking, "Project? Oh, yeah ...I forgot about those guys". And trust me, it's been difficult to focus on anything other than the new sprout release and all the news flowing freely now. But, I am pleased to post a new bonus song from a talented musician-song writer out of Belgium. Joel Lepers has written a love song "to Prefab Sprout" with the very cute and clever title of "PS I Love You".

The lyrics tell the story of this adoring fan who longs for more music from the band, but as the years roll on he becomes all the more discouraged ...until the leaked album shows up, and then his mood and mind set change dramatically.

I love this song, and the story (lyrics) are tailor made for this brilliant moment in time.

Joel wrote the song and plays every instrument on the track. He was kind enough to allow Andrea Perry and I to "do our vocal thing". Thanks Joel! More info on Joel can be found here.

Please listen to this great song by Joel Lepers!

And The New Sprout Album Title Is ....

John Birch and I just received word today for the NEW Prefab Sprout album, which will be called "Crimson / Red".

It was speculated that the album was in fact the mysterious "Devil Came A-Calling". And that certainly made perfect sense, since there is a song on the album with that title. Other possibilities might have been "Trapdoor Melancholy,"  which was another title mentioned by Paddy McAloon some years back. Still, I was delighted to find that all of us adoring Sprout fans had guessed wrong, and course, there was no way anyone could have honestly guessed "Crimson / Red". As to it's meaning? That remains a mystery, but Mr. McAloon does make reference to the title in the song "Adolescence", which also resides on the new album.  I must tell you, I've heard the album many times now, and it is truly one of the best Prefab Sprout albums to date. The lyrics are superb, master-class and unmatched by any other song-writer on the planet. The music is sublime, catchy and perfectly crafted to the lyrical mood of the song.

Each sprout record is quite different from the other, and as a long time fan I can honestly say that "I love them all".  But, this collection of songs is quite special, and I think that many old and new fans will really get excited about it. Best album of the year?  YES!  In my opinion.
I am in love with Crimson / Red.
At the moment .... the power of Prefab Sprout reaches out and stops the savagery. At least they do for me.

WORLD EXCLUSIVE. NEW SPROUT ALBUM

Well, as many of you might already know ...
There was this mystery person who leaked 10 unheard Paddy McAloon songs to Soundcloud. Apparently the songs were uploaded some months back, but it wasn't until June that the songs were actually discovered, once the link was dropped like a bomb on a fan-site.

Since that day much speculation has transpired as well as a whole lot of silence, from the Sprout camp. And many wondered if this leaked album would ever see a proper release. And then "it" happened. I did receive an email on Friday morning that did in fact confirm that Prefab Sprout was releasing the new album on October 7th of this year. Whew! Thank goodness. My good friend, and talented writer "John Birch" also received the same email, as it was addressed to us both by the same source.
John has a page on this site, and he will be divulging much more information within his July newsletter (day or two away).

For more information, please do sign up for John's newsletter and "like" our Facebook page as well. Both will become excellent NEWS hubs for the new album and other relative information. Thanks, Scott

Drums Baby!

At this very moment, Neil Conti is performing and recording the drums for The Prefab Sprout Project-album. Today is day two of his recording process, and we should be seeing the tracks soon. Once that happens, -- "off we go" into a hyper-drive recording frenzy!

Many musicians from around the world will partake in the recording of instruments and sounds for all the songs involved. And a few of the musicians involved are super talented dudes from some very famous bands.
The updates will become much more frequent while the songs are being shaped, and many introductions to the various folks involved will be certain.
So, expect to see mini bio's and links from each musician contributing.

This will be an exceptionally busy summer for the lot, but well worth it indeed!
And for more updates (day to day), discussions and camaraderie ....please do "like" our Facebook page. You will find the quick link at the top right corner of this site.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support.
And away we go .......

Bonus Songs All Summer Long

It's been a busy 45 days! While waiting for Neil Conti to track and send us the drum parts for the album (mid June), the project has already kicked into gear with recording BONUS songs. The plan is to have one or two new songs posted each month of the summer, while leading up to the release of the album in October. The bonus songs will not be included on the project album/CD, but the more the merrier .. I say.
"Love" was the first bonus song to be released (several weeks ago) and the reviews have been incredibly favorable thus far. The song can be heard here on the site -under the "Bonus Songs" page, as well as purchased for $1 on the Pre Order page. And, just for fun a video has been created for your viewing pleasure. (see below)

The next bonus song to be released, in early June... is a tune called "Don't Tell Me Twice". Written by the talented Graeme Slattery of Dublin, Ireland. "Don't Tell Me Twice" will feature Graeme on guitar and Robert Le Plar on bass. The song will offer a more "raw and reckless" sound, much like that of Prefab's earlier days, with an almost "live" feel to it. It was a pleasure to sing on Graeme's ridiculously catchy tune and I look forward to recording more with both he and Robert. -Scott

Fundraiser Completed

Our project fundraiser on Indiegogo.com ended last night and it was a complete success! And in addition to securing fund to hire Sprout drummer, Neil Conti, we also have enough funds to press at least 100 CD's.
I'm looking into possibly pressing more than 100, but at the moment I can safely guarantee a minimum run of 100.

The first 41 CD's are reserved for those who contributed to the fundraiser, however ... I do plan on creating a page on this site that will offer a PayPal link -for those who wish to reserve a CD (pre-pay). If we pre-sell the other 59 CD's - then, that will give us enough funds to press another 100 CD's.

I will post news and progress reports of the recording status as we go along.
I look forward to posting the occasional teaser song, and of course - any good news!  Many thanks to all of you who have believed in and supported The Prefab Sprout Project!    - Chat soon, Scott
